Wendy is a California licensed attorney who was active in the legal profession for 20+ years.  Her expertise in sports law, employment/labor law, business and real estate matters, has been honed over many years of professional and personal experiences in the law and in sport. 

A former professional tennis player, Wendy was a highly ranked national junior player who garnered All-Conference honors as a collegian at the University of California, Berkeley.  She was trained by Harold Mitchell (former ATA National Champion) and Pancho Segura (coach of Jimmy Connors) as a junior, and competed against several top-ranked professionals including Tracy Austin, Andrea Jaeger, Pam Shriver, Zina Garrison, and Lori McNeil during her playing career.

Wendy is co-owner of Shortstop Management, LLC, a professional sports management and consulting business co-owned with her husband, Brian Guinn, a former professional baseball player with the Oakland A’s and Chicago Cubs.  Launched in 2000, the company specializes in youth baseball training and development travel teams and camps, but has also provided contract and endorsement related services to professional athletes.  In 2006, Wendy was instrumental in initiating the Junior Team Tennis Program in the City of Berkeley.  As a law student, she coached the Berkeley High Girls Tennis Team to an undefeated season and has personally trained several top junior tennis players in the Bay Area.  She currently contracts with the City of Richmond to provide instructional services to the City’s Recreation Department Youth Tennis Program. One of the most memorable experiences evolving from her tennis related activities was when Wendy traveled to Houston with current touring pro Venus Williams and former pro Zina Garrison in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to meet with and provide donations to the victims housed in the Houston Astrodome.

Wendy has been a member of the California Bar since 1992.  She has worked in the public sector as an attorney for the federal government and in private practice.   While at the Social Security Administration’s Office of the General Counsel in San Francisco, California, she chaired the General Law Litigation Team and worked directly with the Regional Commissioner for Region IX as the senior personnel attorney-advisor for executive staff and regional component management supervising a workforce of 6,000+ employees.  She was a certified Mediator with the San Francisco Federal Executive Board Mediation Program and received numerous awards and recognitions, among them the Regional Commissioner’s Citation and the Office of the General Counsel’s Excellence in Leadership Award.

In 2008, Wendy helped launch a California based plaintiff’s civil litigation firm specializing in toxic tort (asbestos mesothelioma), personal injury and employment law litigation.  As Chief of Operations and Finances, Wendy set up firm infrastructure, including payroll, financial accounting, offices and web-based technologies, for this state-wide practice and was instrumental in bringing 2.5 million in gross revenues in the first year of operation. 

Wendy received her Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.  She resides in the Bay Area with her husband and has three children: Brian Jr (“BJ”), a professional baseball player drafted as a junior from UC Berkeley ; Trae, a recent graduate of UC Berkeley’s HAAS Undergraduate Business School; and Jasmin, a two-sport scholarship student-athlete at Academy of Art University.
